HONEYMOON HAPPINESS
After a bustling wedding day surrounded by the faces of family, friends, distant relatives and plus-ones, the honeymoon serves as the perfect opportunity for you and your new spouse to retreat and spend some quality time together. Western Australia Wedding & Bride Magazine’s Kirrily Ireland speaks with Deborah Funnekotter, proprietor of Losari retreat, to discuss how couples can plan the ultimate honeymoon, from fun activities to accommodation, and the myriad ways to relax and unwind after the wedding.

WHY HONEYMOON?
Apart from the obvious attraction honeymoons hold – after all, who doesn’t love a good holiday? – they’re an excellent way to round off the wedding celebrations and commence married life. “Honeymoons are important as they give you much needed time away after all the busyness of the wedding,” Funnekotter says. “They also allow couples to have time away with each other, creating a bond that will set them up for the rest of their lives.”

When you’re making the honeymoon arrangements, ensure you give yourself ample time to thoroughly enjoy your stay. “Four to six nights would be the ideal time,” Funnekotter says. “Between exploring the region you’re in, and taking the time to be with each other, it’s definitely not something that can be done in a couple days!” Australians are known for hitting the road and journeying from town to town, city to city, so there’s no need to settle in one place either. “A road trip is definitely the quintessential WA experience,” Funnekotter agrees. “We would suggest you pick a place where you can still relax and indulge along your trip though!”
LOVE IS AN ADVENTURE
There are many ways to unwind on the honeymoon, which can be planned through fun pastimes, either of the more leisurely or the more adventurous kind. “It’s good to have a fantastic place to stay, but also equally important to have activities, tours and experiences close by,” Funnekotter agrees.
Since you’ll most likely be planning your honeymoon at the same time you’re putting an entire wedding together, do yourself a favour and research the easiest ways to book in these additional activities. “Find a place where the experiences and in-house treatments can be booked in with the accommodation you choose on your honeymoon,” Funnekotter advises. “Losari, for example, can help you plan out your itinerary via our website, while also booking in-house chefs, spa treatments and more for you so you don’t have to!”

JUST THE TWO OF US
Between the relaxing spa treatments, hikes through uncharted lands and delicious food, the most important thing about your honeymoon is that you get to spend it with your new spouse. “As long as you remember the trip is to spend time with each other, all the other bells and whistles might not seem so important,” Funnekotter notes – although these little extras sure are fun, and will give you lots to reminisce over as you grow old together. “Make sure you have a place where you can fully immerse yourselves in privacy and you should be all fine!”
