The Cinematic Wedding
A wedding videographer plays an important role in shaping how you remember your big day. They blend storytelling and artistic techniques to create a visual narrative that captures the emotion of the day and showcases your love story. The composition of each shot is carefully planned, using angles and lighting to make your wedding feel like scenes from a romantic movie. Join Western Australia Wedding & Bride’s Jessica Muller as she sits down with Wayne Russell Proud, owner and operator at Waynos Fotos Films, to discuss how wedding videographers help you relive the joy, laughter and love of your wedding.

From the quiver of your voice during your vows to dance floor highlights and unexpected tears of joy, videography brings your love story to life in a way that photography alone can’t. Waynos Fotos Films’ vision is to deliver elegant wedding films to last a lifetime: “To bring back those cherished moments. To not only record those memories for the couple, but to enable them to share their film and memories within days of the wedding.”
Wayne recommends couples look to social media to explore wedding videos to decide on the film style you enjoy and will best capture your memories. “Once you know the style you enjoy, then shop for the price. Capturing your memories is not about the best priced vendor,” he says. “The photos and video are two of only a few items that last past the day of the wedding. Don’t put a cost on your precious memories!”
Frame By Frame
“I am focused on delivering film that engulfs the viewer in the day of the wedding, capturing the love and family connections that are experienced with such an event,” Wayne describes. “That is, the beautiful joining of the couple on the day.” He does this by maintaining a consistent timeline and bringing feeling to the story. “I believe in a natural timeline,” he states. “I believe in telling a story as it unfolds. A story has to have a start, middle and end.” Following a chronological order, he is able to tell the audience how the day happened, alongside how the couple and family navigated and experienced the love of the day. “Of course, this rule can be broken, but there must be a solid reason for me to switch the moments of the day,” he notes.
When it comes to editing, Wayne likes to keep transitions classic and simple. “Nothing too fancy that can distract from the couple’s moments,” he adds. He reports spending most of his time building the images. “I colour grade, then add layers to beautify the images. I believe the ‘look’ is an important part of the process to express the beauty and love of the couple,” he details. The result is a film that is free of distractions, delivering stunning images and a beautiful recount of the day. Waynos Fotos Films delivers the film within a couple of days of the wedding, so that the joy can be shared whilst the day is still present in the couple’s thoughts, enabling them to share the experience with family and friends who may not have been able to attend.
Love In Motion
Wedding films are very personal, so Waynos Fotos Films follows the direction of the couple. “Each couple has their own story to tell their family and friends. It is my job to capture this story,” Wayne says. “The couple are my directors. They guide me to capture the moments that are precious to them.”
Wayne emphasises that preparation is key. “Many advocate the fly on the wall philosophy, but I have a different approach,” he says. “I obviously don’t know all the family and friends intimately. Therefore, I meet with the couple beforehand and prompt them to tell me, what is important to you as a couple?” He emphasises that these conversations before the day are mandatory. “If you want to capture someone’s love, you need to know the couple, their feelings and emotions.” To accurately document their day in a meaningful way, you also need to have a good understanding of the culture and love between the couple, their family, and their friends.
This will also help highlight which elements are the most important to capture. “Yes, there are key moments, but you can’t assume. Different moments have different importance to the couple,” Wayne says. “An example may be the location. It may have a significance that needs to be emphasised, with less focus on other moments that are not so important,” he explains. “You only know this by listening to the couple’s story, and framing the film around the couple’s cherished moments,” he adds.
When asked about whether he stages certain shots in his films, Wayne pointed out that this is a hot topic among many filmmakers. “I do feel this reflects in the film and couples choose based on what they see. I don’t like to direct too much, maybe a pose or two, but nothing more than that,” he describes. “If you intervene too much you can take away the feeling and emotion from the day.”
Vows, Voices And Verses
Wedding videography goes beyond just the moving picture. “Spoken word is actually the most important element,” Wayne advises. “What people say needs to be clear and concise. You need to feel the emotion from that person. The pictures are just to support these words.”
When it comes to ambient sound, Wayne is careful not to overdo it. While it can help pull the person into the moment, it should not be a distraction or overshadow the story and therefore should be used with caution. Music, however, he considers to be a key part of replicating the feeling of the day. “I use multiple tracks to change the feeling of the day as the timeline progresses. I like to select music that has a traditional feel. Timeless is a word I base my selection on when choosing the music for the moment.”
